Put on the clothing you wish to wear during the ritual (or lack thereof, if that's your cup of tea).

Cast your circle:

"Hail, Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, powers of Air, powers of the mind. Blow, cleansing winds, sweep away dust and doubt. I invoke you and call you. Guide me and keep me safe in my ritual."

Prepare whatever else you need to inside the Circle. (Obviously, this is quite the personal ritual- adjust the deities to whomever are your patronesses, as well as all the rest.)

"Blessed Mother Goddess, Blessed Yemaya, Asherah, Kuan Yin, and Gaia; I invite You into my Circle. I invite any passed on kin and beloved pets who wish to be here in kindness, and Lady Diana in their honour. Bless me with whatever gifts you deem fit."

Light a candle for each of your beloved dead. Name them and thank them for the gifts they left you as you light their candle. Let their candles burn all the way down instead of blowing them out (or, if you must extinguish them, use a candle snuffer or something to do the same job, and relight them at a later time- never blow out candles you are working with in your circle or with magick, as it blows away your work).

"The veils between the worlds grow thin. The Western Gates stand open. Here as the year ends and a new year begins, we pause in our daily rounds to remember those who have been parted from us but who are never gone, to light a candle to a blessed memory, lift a cup in parting to meet again, remember those who were loved in this lifetime, and who wait to love you again. Darkness increases and the Goddess reigns as the Crone. For She who holds open the gates to the Summerland to welcome you home, is She who will give you birth in time to come."

Voice your intent to leave behind everything so that you may gather new things to you during the upcoming year. Then reclaim and bring into the New Year only what is consciously and with full intent desired. (Examples: friends, family, love, writing, whathaveyou.)

Fill a cauldron (or a fire-proof bowl of some sort, if you don't have any kind of 'cauldron') with a layer of Epsom salt and a bit of rubbing alcohol. Light the alcohol on fire. On small bits of paper, write the things that you want to be rid of in your life (Examples: fear, depression, unkind feelings, etc.) You can extinguish the flame by covering your cauldron or bowl with a lid. (As usual, be careful with open flames. I trust that you're intelligent enough to take safety precautions. Don't come blaming me if you melt a hole through your carpet, if you didn't take said precautions!)

Meditate, pray, divine, and otherwise finish up your ritual with whatever you need and wish to do:

"I release all spirits and deities visiting for my celebration. Leave this Circle and leave this house, unless you lived here welcomely already.

Goddess, Lady of Life, I thank You for being with me, and ask your blessing ere ye depart. Blessed be."

Face the center of the circle:

"Ye Guardians of the Watchtowers, spirits of the Four Directions, I thank you for being with me, and ask your blessing ere ye depart. May the Peace of the Goddess be between us, now and forever. The circle is open, but unbroken. May the Peace of the Goddess go in my heart. Blessed be."

Leave food and drink outside your front door near a lighted candle for any friendly and benevolent wayward spirits who seek companionship and bring blessings. Keep a fire lit or a candle burning all night to honour the dead. Also leave candles in windows, where safe. Have your feast, if you've planned one.

research compiled from all kinds of places... i
apologise for not keeping better track of where
i got my inspiration for the ritual. if you notice
something that is yours and you want it credited,
please email me! i'd be more than happy to do so. :)
